Electrale Innovation Ltd is federally incorporated company acting as a development vehicle for Hydraulic Air Compressor (HAC) technology.
The company was the commercialization partner in the Ultra Deep Mine Network‘s HAC Demonstrator Project. This is the company’s main activity at present. This led to the construction of the HAC Demonstrator at Dynamic Earth. Find out more about the HAC Demonstrator Project here. The company’s procurement policy is here.

The company’s President and CEO is Dr Dean Millar. Dean is also Professor of Mining Engineering within Laurentian University‘s Bharti School of Engineering. As well as leading the HAC commercialization efforts for Electrale Innovation Ltd, Dean leads the team undertaking scientific investigation on HACs at Laurentian University. Within the School of Engineering, he instructs on Mine Ventilation, Operations Research and Research Methods. He is also the Graduate Program Coordinator in the Bharti School of Engineering.
Dr Caterina Noula is a Research Scientist specializing in organic synthesis and analytical chemistry. She is an active member of the HAC research team, leading the efforts on real time gas analysis of HAC processes using a HIDEN Biostream mass spectrometer. Caterina is also Electrale Innovation Ltd’s company Secretary and Treasurer.
Stephen Young joined Electrale Innovation Ltd after completing his Masters degree on “Simulating air absorption in a hydraulic air compressor”. Steve is the architect of the 2-phase hydrodynamic numerical model that incorporates psychrometry and gas solubility behaviour for different aqueous systems. This model was crucial in the design of the Hydraulic Air Compressor Demonstrator and essential to the process of design of larger scale units.
Dr Alex Hutchison joined Electrale Innovation Ltd after completing his PhD on “Air entrainment and air-water separation in hydraulic air compressors”. Alex characterises the water flow field in the separator using 3D computational fluid dynamics techniques and couples this to a specialist bubble tracking procedure which the Company uses to design air-water separators for HACs. His PhD work also led to the design of Electrale’s special in-line air water mixing units.
